Program
The Carle Foundation Hospital General Surgery Residency Program is an accredited residency affiliated with the University of Illinois College of Medicine.  The General Surgery Residency is part of Carle’s outstanding residency training system which includes a nationally-recognized Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency, a fellowship in Geriatrics, and a dually accredited Family Medicine residency that has been in operation for over 20 years.  The General Surgery Residency combines the efficiency of a successful private sector organization with the intellectual stimulation and scientific focus of a world class academic institution.  This unique approach will optimize residents’ training experiences and ensure that program graduates exhibit the strength and versatility necessary to succeed in a broad range of professional career paths. 

Carle Foundation Hospital
Carle Foundation Hospital (CFH) is the primary teaching hospital for the University Of Illinois College of Medicine.  CFH and the Carle Physicians Group represent an integrated healthcare delivery organization recognized for its long standing tradition of excellence in clinical care and solid financial stability. CFH serves approximately 1,400 trauma registry patients annually, and of those approximately 970 are on the trauma service.  Hospital-wide, our facility performs over 14,500 major operations each year and serves over 500,000 patients annually.  

In 2009, Carle joined an elite group of hospitals by achieving Magnet® designation, the nation’s highest honor for nursing care.  Carle also houses a talented AirLife team which plays an essential role in our position as East Central Illinois’ only Level I Trauma Center.  In addition, Carle is home to the Mills Breast Cancer Institute, the Carle Cancer Center, and a Level III Perinatal Center. As a result of these exceptional facilities, Carle is able to offer its residents strong clinical and academic opportunities in an exceptional educational setting.
