Admission Criteria

To be admitted to the Carle Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit, the following criteria must be met. You must:

  • need comprehensive therapy (physical, occupational and/or speech) on an inpatient basis
  • be able to increase your ability to be in therapy for at least three hours per day
  • be likely to benefit from therapy and make sustainable functional improvements
  • be medically stable
  • agree to be admitted to the Carle Inpatient Rehabilitation program
  • have a primary care physician who will monitor your care after you leave the Rehabilitation Unit
  • have a system that will provide you support after you leave the Unit.

You will not be admitted to the Carle Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit if you:

  • are ventilator dependent
  • are under the age of 13

All patient cases scheduled for admission are reviewed thoroughly on an individual basis. For the above patients, a variety of treatment alternatives are offered, and assistance is provided in evaluating the benefits of each option. If inpatient rehabilitation is not appropriate at that time, assistance is provided with making arrangements for patients to receive alternative treatment or to be transferred to an appropriate facility.
