Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery

The Carle Heart Center offers the latest in advanced surgical procedures and techniques. Carle is the only area hospital offering the latest generation of life-saving partial artificial hearts - ventricular assist devices.  Carle also offers transmyocardial revascularization (TMR), a revolutionary procedure for coronary artery disease patients suffering from severe angina who are not treatable by conventional coronary revascularization techniques (e.g. bypass surgery and angioplasty). The Carle Heart Center surgical team performs more than 1,100 cases a year including 400 open hearts procedures. Carle Heart Center procedures include:

  • open heart surgery
  • valve surgery and coronary bypass
  • TMR - Transmyocardial revascularization
  • VAD - ventricular assist devices
  • lung surgery
  • carotid surgery
  • vascular bypass for lower extremities
  • abdominal aortic surgery and a-v access surgery
  • amputations
  • vericose vein stripping and ligation

Carle Clinic Association and Carle Foundation Hospital contract with insurance providers separately and may or may not choose to participate in all of the same insurance plans.
